Tree Plantation Drive at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering – A Prelude to IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2025
As part of the build-up to IGEN Environthon 2025, a symbolic and impactful tree plantation drive was organized today at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Chennai.
The initiative was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Father of BrahMos and Member, Board of Governors, IGEN, who planted the first sapling. This was followed by 99 enthusiastic school students, each contributing to the creation of a greener future.
This collective effort of planting 100 trees is a step towards mitigating carbon emissions and aligns directly with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action). The plantation symbolizes the commitment of youth and thought leaders to work hand-in-hand for a sustainable planet.
This initiative also serves as a prelude to the upcoming IGEN Environthon 2025, a record-setting 30-hour global sustainability marathon scheduled from September 14–16, 2025. The marathon will bring together 399 speakers across 30 countries, 30 states, 30 districts, and 30 institutional partners, addressing 30 thematic areas aligned with COP30 and the conservation of the Panchabhutas (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space).
By blending knowledge sharing with on-ground action like today’s tree plantation, IGEN Environthon 2025 reinforces its mission: translating discussions into tangible climate action for the planet and its people.
