The Institution of Green Engineers (IGEN) jointly with URI CC – IGEN Vibbggyor Green Circle proudly unveils the first look of IGEN ENERGATHON 2026, a groundbreaking global initiative set to redefine energy action and sustainability dialogue. Aligned with the 56th Earth Day, this edition introduces the world’s first 26-hour nonstop SDG4ENERGY 7-continent climate action marathon under the theme “Energy Without Borders” attempting new World Record.
Bringing together experts, policymakers, academia, industry leaders, and youth from Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and Antarctica, the marathon will host dedicated continental sessions to address region-specific energy challenges and accelerate solutions for SDG7 and interconnected goals.
The outcomes will be compiled into the IGEN White Paper, delivering actionable global policy recommendations to UN agencies and governments. Continuing its legacy of excellence, IGEN ENERGATHON 2026 aims for global recognition, building on certifications from Asia Book of Records (ABR), World Record Certification Agency (WRCA), and Official World Record (OWR), European Union.

The Evolution of IGEN ENERGATHON: A Marathon for Energy Action
In alignment with SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, The Institution of Green Engineers (IGEN) launched the concept of an energy action marathon titled IGEN ENERGATHON, during the height of the COVID-19 crisis. The initiative was inspired by the need for resilient energy discourse and indexed to the 50th Earth Day, symbolizing a renewed global commitment to sustainability.
IGEN ENERGATHON 2020 – The Inception : The first edition, IGEN ENERGATHON 2020, was a groundbreaking world record attempt—a 13.36-hour non-stop virtual conference featuring 40 speakers and 10 partner organizations. The event culminated in energy action recommendations submitted to UN energy policymakers. Recognized for its scale and impact, it received awards from the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
IGEN ENERGATHON 2023 – The Second Wave : Building on the success of its debut, the second edition of IGEN ENERGATHON was held in alignment with the 53rd Earth Day, spanning 19.13 continuous hours. The event featured 110 speakers, including 55 presenters, and engaged a global audience of over 15,000 participants. Key insights and policy recommendations were submitted to local, national, and UN energy authorities. This impactful edition was recognized with an award from the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA), Great Britain, for its extensive global outreach and influence.
IGEN ENERGATHON 2024 – The Third Edition : The third edition, IGEN ENERGATHON 2024, marked a remarkable milestone with a 25-hour and 25-minute continuous global marathon. Focused on six critical themes under the banner of ENERGY4SUSTAINABILITY, the event brought together 17 international partner organizations and participants from 17 countries. It culminated in the submission of strategic recommendations to energy policymakers at local, national, and United Nations levels. This edition was honoured with official recognition from the Official World Record (OWR) European Union, for its exceptional duration and impactful global engagement.
IGEN ENERGATHON 2025 – Fourth Edition achieved a historic milestone by setting a world record with a continuous 2025-minute (33 hours 45 minutes) nonstop global energy marathon, engaging over 13,000 participants, 330 marathon speakers, 82 pre-conference speakers, 20 special guests, and 80 organizers, along with contributions from 25 global partners, 25 academic institutions, and 25,000+ wider stakeholders. Conducted across 6 modules and 40 sessions under the Earth Day theme “Our Power & Our Planet,” the event enabled impactful discussions on SDG-linked energy challenges, especially SDGs 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. The outcome was the formulation of 10 key recommendations submitted to UN Energy 2025, the UN SDG team, and government bodies, strengthening global collaboration, policy direction, and innovation to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and clean energy systems. This edition applied for new World Record and waiting approval.
IGEN ENERGATHON 2025: the fourth edition of this globally recognized energy action marathon, is set to make history with a 2025-minute world record attempt. Aligned with the 55th Earth Day and themed around “Our Power & Our Planet”, this edition will unite: 25 global partners, 25 academic institutions, 25 industry and academic leaders, 25K+ participants, 25 strategic themes, together, these stakeholders will engage in continuous, solution-oriented dialogue to address the most pressing global energy challenges.
Certified by Asia Book of Records (ABR), World Record Certification Agency (WRCA), and Official World Record (OWR), European Union, IGEN ENERGATHON 2025 will focus on: Shaping the Sustainable Energy Action Plan, Advancing the Energy Triangle Framework, Contributing to the progress of all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ,Driving impactful discussions on State, National, and UN energy policies, Strengthening SDG4ENERGY initiatives through global collaboration and knowledge exchange
